A great 4 day long weekend with the Nelson Tramping Club exploring the wild west coast around Kahurangi Point. Spent two nights at the Kahurangi Keepers House and checked out the Kahurangi Lighthouse and walking south to the Kahurangi River. We were lucky that there had being little rainfall and the Anatori river was low allowing us to drive across in low clearance 4 wheel drive SUVs. THere are a few river crossings as your hike down the beach that require low river flows/low tides to cross. Crossing the Big River estuary was no big deal around low tide being about waist deep. However these river mouths are continually changing so be prepared to swim this if conditions are less than ideal and ensure your pack is watertight.
